We yearn for Zion and hope the Second Coming comes very soon! I pray my family and friends will strive to be counted among the elect.
We have “Zion” cells among our members, and I generally applaud them. Zion cells are groups of “outside the box” people who explore and strive to create or bring about a Zion group of people. These can be worthwhile efforts. They can also generate rabbit holes of false doctrines and delusional self-importance.
Every worthy and striving Saint is possibly a future citizen of that long-awaited Zion era.
Tonight, I’d like to eliminate a repeating false narrative. Some people honestly think Zion waits on them in some fashion – as in its coming is pivotal to THEM and their few righteous accomplishments. Because they are of such chosen importance, they will influence the Galactic timeline for Zion and its arrival.
That unfortunate teaching is misleading and incognizant of the big picture. And probably leads people down rabbit holes that don’t accomplish much.
(I know who made the cultural teaching of Zion-waiting-for-us-to-be-ready popular – please don’t quote him <cringe> unless you think he outranks prophets and scripture.)
Joseph Fielding Smith said it better.
CHRIST WILL COME IN DAY OF WICKEDNESS. “When we become ripe in iniquity, then the Lord will come. I get annoyed sometimes at some of our elders who when speaking say the Lord will come when we all become righteous enough to receive him. The Lord is not going to wait for us to get righteous. When he gets ready to come, he is going to come — when the cup of iniquity is full — and if we are not righteous then, it will be just too bad for us, for we will be classed among the ungodly [rest of the world], and we will be as stubble to be swept off the face of the earth, for the Lord says wickedness shall not stand.”
“Do not think the Lord delays his coming, for he will come at the appointed time, not the time which I have heard some preach when the earth becomes righteous enough to receive him. I have heard some men in positions and places of trust in the Church preach this, men who are supposed to be acquainted with the word of the Lord, but they failed to comprehend the scriptures.” (Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation 3:44)
Not only does Zion not wait on us, but the cleansing starts among us, meaning we’re not all righteous in the end.
24 Behold, vengeance cometh speedily upon the inhabitants of the earth, a day of wrath, a day of burning, a day of desolation, of weeping, of mourning, and of lamentation; and as a whirlwind it shall come upon all the face of the earth, saith the Lord.
25 And upon my house shall it begin, and from my house shall it go forth, saith the Lord;
26 First among those among you, saith the Lord, who have professed to know my name and have not known me, and have blasphemed against me in the midst of my house, saith the Lord. (D&C 112:24-26)
I suppose the Lord starts with us because the greater light receives, the greater condemnation. Our wickedness may be the most offensive because we had the most light given to us.

Reality: Zion is a speeding bullet train with a set schedule that doesn’t stop for one passenger. Either be on time or miss the ride. Let me back that up with scriptures and prophets.
A Dose of Humility
This Bible verse perfectly encapsulates the self-important Zion syndrome.
“And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.” (Matthew 3:9)
Do you realize who is prophesied to come and be a part of Zion? Your Zion cell (group) is a drop in the bucket, and whether you succeed or fail will not change the timeline of global prophesies. I know that’s a dose of humble pie for a few people but truth is always more powerful than delusion.
Four Quarters
Moses 7:62 tells how it goes down:
62 And righteousness will I send down out of heaven; and truth will I send forth out of the earth, to bear testimony of mine Only Begotten; his resurrection from the dead; yea, and also the resurrection of all men; and righteousness and truth will I cause to sweep the earth as with a flood, to gather out mine elect from the four quarters of the earth, unto a place which I shall prepare, an Holy City, that my people may gird up their loins, and be looking forth for the time of my coming; for there shall be my tabernacle, and it shall be called Zion, a New Jerusalem. (Moses 7:62)
Every far corner has elect people in it.
Zion doesn’t wait on us, we qualify to be invited to it as an elect person.
“And now, I ask, how righteousness and truth are going to sweep the earth as with a flood? I will answer. Men and angels are to be co workers in bringing to pass this great work, and Zion is to be prepared, even a new Jerusalem, for the elect that are to be gathered from the four quarters of the earth, and to be established an holy city, for the tabernacle of the Lord shall be with them.” (TPJS pg. 94)
The Lord already has enough worthy mortals and resurrected beings in the wings to fill those 144,000 high priest positions and much more.
Here are more details about where they will come from in addition to the “four quarters.”
North Countries
26 And they who are in the north countries shall come in remembrance before the Lord; and their prophets shall hear his voice, and shall no longer stay themselves; and they shall smite the rocks, and the ice shall flow down at their presence.
27 And an highway shall be cast up in the midst of the great deep. (D&C 133:26-27)
City of Enoch
63 And the Lord said unto Enoch: Then shalt thou and all thy city meet them there, and we will receive them into our bosom, and they shall see us; and we will fall upon their necks, and they shall fall upon our necks, and we will kiss each other;
64 And there shall be mine abode, and it shall be Zion, which shall come forth out of all the creations which I have made; and for the space of a thousand years the earth shall rest. (Moses 7:63-34)
The Lord is preparing His chosen Zion people in many different places.
28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:
29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.
30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.
31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord come.
32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call. (Joel 2:28-32)
Four Quarters + Angels + North Countries + City of Enoch
Again, Zion already has enough candidates. We do not influence the prophetic timelines by our actions. Instead, you strive to get your life in order and place yourself close to Christ so that you are called up to Zion and don’t miss that train.
Zion waits for no one but invites all of us to be there.
