Highlights for Nephi 17-19
Jesus summons your light and reassures you he wants it seen everywhere.
24 Therefore, hold up your light that it may shine unto the world. Behold I am the light which ye shall hold up—that which ye have seen me do. Behold ye see that I have prayed unto the Father [on behalf of others], and ye all have witnessed.
25 And ye see that I have commanded that none of you should go away, but rather have commanded that ye should come unto me, that ye might feel and see [and have a rather up-close, personal experience]; even so shall ye do unto the world [include and invite everyone]; and whosoever breaketh this commandment suffereth himself to be led into temptation. (3 Nephi 18:24)
Feel and See
Christ is literally giving you permission to shine! Think of all the different ways our light can radiate and the joy we can bring to the world – in a way others can feel and see.
We feel and see light through:
- Service [both to give and receive]
- Friendship and inclusion
- Mentoring and teaching
- Beautiful art
- Uplifting music
- Inspired writing
- Creativity of all kinds
Brilliant, Gorgeous, Talented, Fabulous
Although you may have seen this quote from Marianne Williamson, I had to reference it here – it is a perfect fit.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
Takeaway
Jesus asks you directly to “hold up your light that it may shine to the world.” You have light! It may be a talent, a gift, a skill, the ability to recognize needs and give service. You have a passion, a truer purpose…give those wonderful things a regular place in your every day life!
