From his talk, Focus on the Temple
Part of the President Nelson Series
All blue quotes by President Russell M. Nelson (unless otherwise noted).
This is President Nelson’s shorter Sunday afternoon talk; what he says about temples is inspiring.
Key to Heavenly Help
Dear brothers and sisters, during these five magnificent sessions of general conference, we have once again experienced that the heavens are open! I pray that you have recorded your impressions and will follow through with them. Our Heavenly Father and His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ, stand ready to help you. I urge you to increase your efforts to seek Their help.
Several times now, President Nelson has handed us a key to more revelation and heavenly power and intervention. It is…record your impressions. Keep a continual, written record of your impressions. Review them and follow through on them. It’s a beautiful, empowering, blessed process. If you haven’t started it yet – please grab any old notebook or piece of paper and try it.
Incorporate it into your every single day life. It will change the quality and direction of your path and life experience.
…temple Temple TeMpLe T-E-M-P-L-E
It is significant that the Savior chose to appear to the people at the temple. It is His house. It is filled with His power. Let us never lose sight of what the Lord is doing for us now. He is making His temples more accessible. He is accelerating the pace at which we are building temples. He is increasing our ability to help gather Israel. He is also making it easier for each of us to become spiritually refined. I promise that increased time in the temple will bless your life in ways nothing else can.
My dear brothers and sisters, may you focus on the temple in ways you never have before. I bless you to grow closer to God and Jesus Christ every day. I love you. May God be with you until we meet again, I pray in the sacred name of Jesus Christ, amen.
“…in ways, you never have before” – like how often you go? I have friends with jobs and kids who go every single week. Our temple is an hour away if you drive fast (ahem…what speed limit?) They go to another state if ours is closed for some reason. I respect their dedication so much. For my spouse, once a month is “often.” We made a compromise, and we go every other week.
Takeaway
Whatever is “often” and now “more often” for you – please go. The blessings add up, and goodness knows how these times are complex and increasingly chaotic. For all of our sakes, let’s please participate together intentionally. Godspeed you.
My new focus, because I am unable to physically get to a temple often is to study the covenants, law of obedience, vsacrifice, cobsecration, etc
Beautiful idea! I love this and the Church has published the 5 covenants we make in the temple as well. You can search for them online. I suppose indexing and genealogy – the world’s most popular hobby fits in too.
I, too, remember those days with a young family and responsibilities, when it was difficult to get to the temple which was only an hour away. Now that we are retired and our family is gone, we are so blessed to have been ordinance workers and now to be there each week, only 20 minutes away. I still wonder though, if we could have made it more of a priority to be there more often while we were needing the power and inspiration to raise our family.
That’s a great ponder! Probably every circumstance is unique and individual and thus “often” and “more often” is also unique and individual. Could I have gone more often during the busy years…yes. Now the prophet is making a urgent, solid case and all of us could probably review what we’re doing and see if we can upgrade somehow. Thank you so much for being ordinance workers – that is a tremendous service. Bless your heart.
