This morning, I asked the Heavens what I should study, and the answer was crystal clear: “Study President Nelson’s last talk.” The answer came audibly and visually, and I felt it resonate in my heart.
That talk read like a patriarchal blessing this morning and overwhelmed my soul. It also answered a couple of personal conflicting issues that had been haunting me…in a big, lovely, rescue sort of way.
What Do You Study?
Have you ever done that? Asked what you should study and have you been open to that answer? Or is the space for receiving that kind of inspiration shut down by you?
Let me explain that question.
Those who declare that it must be the Book of Mormon daily possess a great habit—UNLESS it crowds out studying and becoming intimately acquainted with the other standard works and the prophets’/apostles’ messages from General Conference.
You greatly miss out on timely guidance if the Book of Mormon is the only sacred writ you study. Christ admonishes us to read it all:
12 And again, the elders, priests and teachers of this church shall teach the principles of my gospel, which are in the Bible and the Book of Mormon, in the which is the fulness of the gospel.
13 And they shall observe the covenants and church articles to do them, and these shall be their teachings, as they shall be directed by the Spirit. (Doctrine and Covenants 42:12-13)
(The footnote affirms “covenants and articles” means “Doctrine and Covenants)
I don’t specifically read the Book of Mormon every day, except for footnote mining.
Instead, I read Christ’s words every day. I find that they are just as powerful wherever true words of Christ are found.
This goes against some church culture, but if it resonates with you as a way to expand your study, then I wholeheartedly recommend you pursue it.
New Jerusalem
Here is a small piece of what I contemplated this morning from President Nelson’s talk:
President Nelson quietly affirmed that Independence, Missouri, is the New Jerusalem.
He said, “Jesus Christ will govern from both old Jerusalem and the New Jerusalem, built upon the American continent.” (The Lord Jesus Christ Will Come Again – Oct 2024)
Next to that statement is footnote #7.
2 Yea, the word of the Lord concerning his church, established in the last days for the restoration of his people, as he has spoken by the mouth of his prophets, and for the gathering of his saints to stand upon Mount Zion, which shall be the city of New Jerusalem.
3 Which city shall be built, beginning at the temple lot, which is appointed by the finger of the Lord, in the western boundaries of the State of Missouri, and dedicated by the hand of Joseph Smith, Jun., and others with whom the Lord was well pleased.
4 Verily this is the word of the Lord, that the city New Jerusalem shall be built by the gathering of the saints, beginning at this place, even the place of the temple, which temple shall be reared in this generation. (Doctrine and Covenants 82:2-4)
Are you aware that the Church now owns almost 6,000 acres in Independence, MO, and another roughly 4000 acres elsewhere in Jackson County, MO?
Should You Move?
Should you move there? Probably not. Independence struggles with some ghetto problems and significant crime problems. Outside the city, rural Missouri is very, very rural and lacks typical conveniences and modern innovations, and a lot of it is depressed economically.
(My husband and I LOVE rural Missouri, but we’re not typical.)
Anyway…
It does my heart tremendous good to see President Nelson and Joseph Smith so aligned in purpose and prophecy.
I just wanted to let you know that those prophecies will happen. The Church and President Nelson are getting ready!
My wife and I love Missouri as well. I think we are going to end up moving there once the Springfield Temple is constructed!
I’ve heard that’s a great area of Missouri.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I really appreciate the study tips. Studying talks and footnotes has always been more engaging to me too.
