Fasten Your Seatbelt (No. 24)
From his talk, The Power of Spiritual Momentum
Part of the President Nelson Series
All blue quotes by President Russell M. Nelson (unless otherwise noted).
Are You Returning?
President Nelson reaches to you with tenderness:
If you feel you have strayed off the covenant path too far or too long and have no way to return, that simply is not true. Please contact your bishop or branch president. He is the Lord’s agent and will help you experience the joy and relief of repenting.
Are You Wavering a Bit?
What about if you’ve let things go, like praying three times daily, keeping the Sabbath day holy, reading your scriptures daily, investing in your family members, regular temple attendance, paying tithing, etc.? We often find ourselves still on the path somewhere but kind of off to the side or not moving with a stride we feel great about. We’ve been in better places, and it would be nice to get that back!
The prophet’s words fit that too.
Now, a caution: Returning to the covenant path does not mean that life will be easy. This path is rigorous and at times will feel like a steep climb. This ascent, however, is designed to test and teach us, refine our natures, and help us to become saints. It is the only path that leads to exaltation. One prophet described the “blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual; and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven … [and] dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness.”
Walking the covenant path, coupled with DAILY REPENTANCE, fuels positive spiritual momentum.
In post #22, we explore the joyfulness of daily repentance and some tips for starting it back up in your life.
Takeaway
Spiritual momentum is an energizing dynamic to experience. It makes the grass greener and the sky bluer right where we stand.
Thank you, dear prophet for these words!
Timshel (Hebrew for “thou mayest” [rise and conquer])
